Press Release for the Newtown Bee 7-14-2011
Unwind Your Imagination with Duct Tape Crafts
The Booth Library announces another Duct Tape Projects workshop with Katie Stevenson on Wednesday, August 14, from 2:00-3:30pm. She’ll be leading the group in several projects including bags, flowers and tool belts. Participants can also get creative custom-making sandals, photo frames, belts, sun visors, and accessories of their own design.
Duct tape is one of the most versatile materials there is. You might not think of it for crafts, but with Katie Stevenson and a little imagination, you can make all kinds of things. You can always use a tote bag! Bring a clean, empty pet food bag (any size) and turn it into an original tote. Need a cell phone or iPod holder? Make one with duct tape. Katie’s list of projects is huge – wristband, picture frame, roses, sandals are a few more options. Every year young people make the most creative accessories out of tape in different colors and patterns, and embellishments like feathers, jewels and beads.
The program is limited to fifteen students in grades 6-12. There is a $6.00 supply fee, payable at the program. Sign up online at www.chboothlibrary.org .
Ms Stevenson, who is a teacher, illustrator, painter, sculptor and designer, held her first ever Duct Tape Workshop here in Newtown in 2004, and since then has received requests to lead similar programs at many other libraries. Participants use tape in colors such as cherry red, lavender, yellow, dayglo pink and green, and the popular camouflage pattern. Ms Stevenson is bringing another assortment of tapes, trims and stickers for this year’s program.
For more information, contact Kim Weber, Young Adult Librarian at 426-4533.
